I Telemarketed for Guiness! Part 2!
Yes! My first day was here.
Unfortunately, I wasn't.
We had finished a show at the Pavillion the night before my first day. We were doing one of our first headlining sets in Belfast (requiring a number of costume changes, natch) and had a great set.
So, naturally we stuck around to have a few of the things you see there on the left.
One turned into another, etc.
Long story short (as Stacey's new character, Sharon would say), we didn't get home until well after 1 AM.
I was supposed to be at work "a few minutes before 9AM" to take care of some paperwork.
I was only two and a half hours late.I actually made it up on time not feeling too bad. The problem is that all the public transport in Belfast runs through the City Center (that's one of the funniest things you can make a Belfastian say, BTW. It's almost as good as the word "hate", which comes out as "hit". See below if you don't believe me)
Anyway, so I finally made it to the call center.
I was informed that I was late for training (duh), but I still might be able to catch up with the class.
The security guard informed me to try the next building down the strip mall. So I left and followed his directions. I got as far as the supermarket across from the car lot (see - told you the strip malls were the same there) before I realized I'd gone to far.
Finally I located the building. The guard rang me in and I told him that I was looking for the class. He said he had no idea what I was talking about. So I shrugged my shoulders and left.
Then, after I'd gotten a few feet outside, the guard called me over. He knew where the training was. So I followed him back inside. He took a key down from a keychain and led me to a room in the back. He pointed me inside and said that's where the class was.
And then he left.
I looked around.
The room was empty. Literally. Not even a desk.
But I noticed some stairs. So I climbed up the stairs to find more empty rooms. Then back down some more stairs. Finally I found something that looked like a training room.
But it was empty.
I stopped in the break room. A sign politely told me that there was "No Eating in the Break Room". And yet they had a snack machine. I didn't like the way this looked. So I went to the bathroom to blow my nose.
This is where it really started to go wrong.
Since the weather here is so fucked up (technically, it's still summer, remember?)...
I've been having allergies and sometimes nosebleeds.
This was one of those times.
My nose started bleeding while I was in the non-break breakroom. I staunched the flow of blood the best I could with a roll of toilet tissue.
This was turning out to be horrible, so I decided just to make my way home and cut my losses.
But it was not to be. As soon as I found the outside of the breakroom, I started walking towards the bus and salvation. Just as I was about to make my exit, the security guard who let me in the room found me. He helpfully pointed me back in the direction of the main building and said the class had gone back there.
Not having much choice I headed off in that direction.
